Southern Miss' Janet Rono Has Good Showing at the NCAA National Cross Country Meet
Southern Miss' Janet Rono competed in the 2001 NCAA National Cross Country Championship, in Greenville, S.C., finishing 90th overall out of 249 runners, with a time of 22:03 over the 6K-course. Rono was the first Southern Miss cross country runner to compete in the national meet.

"I though Janet ran hard today," Head Cross Country Coach Dena Dunn-Reif said. "I know she was disappointed with her time and performance, but I am still pleased with her efforts and her overall season. This was an exciting time for us and the Southern Miss cross country program."

Rono concludes her 2001 cross country season as the most outstanding women's runner. She finished in the top five in every meet she ran. Her finishes included two first-place finishes, two third-place finishes, and a fifth-place finish.
