Lady Eagle Cross Country Team Heads to Conference USA Cross Country Championship

The Southern Miss women’s cross country team heads into its final week preparations for the 2001 Conference USA Cross Country Champions and Head Coach Dena Dunn-Reif is very optimistic about her teams chances.

“I think this is the best cross country team we have had in a long time,” Dunn-Reif said. “We have worked hard all season in preparation for this meet. We have had only one opportunity to run a 6K, but I think we are well-rested and can place in the top half for the conference.”

Junior Janet Rono has been the top runner for the Golden Eagles the entire season. She has placed in the top three each of the races she has raced this season.

“Janet could be a top 10 finisher if she runs like she is capable of running,” Dunn-Reif said. “She is a strong runner and has the endurance and stamina to run a solid race.”

The best conference finish for the Eagles have been a 9th place finish.
