Southern Miss Finishes Fifth at the Tulane Green Wave Cross Country Invitational
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women’s cross country team defended its title in the Tulane Invitational at Levee Oaks Park Friday. The men’s race was won by LSU, followed by the Birmingham southern and then the Green Wave.

The Wave's Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) captured the men's individual title with a time of 14:48.35 in the three-mile race, Paulina Vondrkova from UNO, won the women's race with a time of 11:46.00.

The Tulane women won the event with 51 points, followed by UNO (57 points), LSU (61), Birmingham Southern (76), Southern Miss (104), Xavier (161) and Mobile (202) rounded out the women's field.

Junior Jessica Crump was the Lady Eagles' top finisher, covering the two-mile course in 12:32.21 to finish sixth overall. Junior Keri White finished eighth with a time of 12:39.98, and Tomeka Shaffer finished 17th with a time of 13:04.54. Rounding out the Golden Eagle runners were Alisha Edward, (38th) with a time of 13:52.35, Karen Tankersley (43rd) with a time of 14:26.77, Margarita Rivera (46) with a time of 14:36.77, and Erica Scharfenstein (49) with a time of 15:25.77.

Southern Miss returns to action, Sept. 13, in its own annual Southern Miss Invitational Cross Country Meet.
