Lady Eagle Cross Country Team Finishes Second

NEW ORLEANS -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle cross country team placed four runners in the top 10, finishing second with 38 points at the Tulane Cross Country Invitational Friday evening at the Levee Oaks Park.

Senior Lydiah Chepkwony led all Southern Miss runners, finishing fourth overall covering the two-mile course with a time of 12:08.16. Newcomer Cassandra Goodson of Concord, Calif., finished sixth with a time of 12:23.51, Karen Tankersley was seventh with a time of 12:29.18 and another newcomer Becca Wiseman of Phoenix, Ariz., placed 10th with a time of 12:32.65, just edging out teammate Keri White, who finished 11th with a time of 12:33.41.

Tulane captured the team title with 19 points, after placing five runners in the top eight. Rounding out the team finishes, LSU was third with 100 points, followed by Louisiana-Lafayette with 115 points, Southeastern Louisiana 116, Nicholls State 190, Xavier of New Orleans 199, and Loyola of New Orleans 200.

Southern Miss returns to action, Sept. 12, hosting its 24th annual Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational at the Van Hook Golf Course, on the Pavilion side. The university women's 5K race beginning at 4:15 p.m., followed by the men's 4-mile race at 4:45 p.m.
