Women's Cross Country Team Finishes 11th at Conference USA Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The SMU Mustangs captured their first Conference USA Women's Cross Country title Saturday at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn. The 16th-ranked Tulsa men bettered it second-place showing from the last two years with its first C-USA championship title since joining the league in 2005. Rounding out the women's team finishes were Rice in second place (50), Tulsa (77), UAB (116), Houston (145), East Carolina (177), UTEP (182), UCF (198), Tulane (209), Marshall (270), Southern Miss (344) and Memphis (357). Southern Miss'Zuna Portillo was the top finisher for Golden Eagles, covering the course in a time of 19:44. Faith Ngobiro ran a time of 21:33, followed by Terria Wheeler with a time of 21:36, Cheris Fletcher was next at 21:38, LeSheika Dinkins ran a time of 23:51, Jolisa Evans posted a time of 23:04 and Ke'Aura Lawason came in with a time of 25:26. Tulsa's men finished second with 30 points, followed by Rice in third-place (84). Marshall came in fourth (114), while East Carolina (145), Houston (156), Memphis (175) and Tulane (235) rounded out the men's results. Numerous C-USA teams will be competing in the upcoming NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15, followed by the NCAA Championship on Nov. 24. 2008 C-USA WOMEN'S FINAL TEAM STANDINGS
