Women's Cross Country Team Finishes Third at 28th Annual Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Temperatures were a bit cooler and the humidity was down for the 28th Annual Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational Friday afternoon at Tatum Park, as South Alabama's men's (15 points) and women's (31 points) team claimed the team title.

The USA women's team placed four runners in the top 10, as the top finisher, Maggie Chepkoech, paced the Jaguars with a time of 19:30.20 in the 5K race.

Southern Miss' Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez finished fourth overall with a time of 20:25.73. Faith Ngobiro finished ninth with a time of 21:55.05. Rounding out the Golden Eagle finishes included Terria Wheeler (15th) with a time of 23:24.33, Cheris Fletcher (16th) with a time of 23:28.02, Jolisa Evans (18th) with a time of 25:30.26 and Lesheika Dinkins (19th) with a time of 27:43.99.

South Alabama's Micah Tirop ran a time of 24:55.02, taking the individual honor for the men's 8K race.

Southern Miss returns to action when the team competes in the Auburn Invitational, Oct. 4.
