UAB's offensive power was too much as the Blazers eliminated No. 11 seed Southern Miss in straight games, 30-21, 30-26, 30-23, in the second quarterfinal match of the 2007 C-USA Volleyball Championship Friday.

Southern Miss wraps up its 2007 slate at 13-21.

Senior Morgan Johnson led Southern Miss with 10 kills, while sophomore libero Maia Ivanova led the team defensively with 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Amanda Huntoon stepped up at the net with seven blocks on the afternoon.

UAB was led by juniors Casey Dent's 19 kills and Aleksandra Vujovic 14. Dent, an All-C-USA selection, ended the match with a solid .472 hitting efficiency (19K, 2E, 36TA) and chipped in three digs.

UAB stormed out to a 5-0 in game one and kept the Golden Eagles' offense in check as the Blazers hammered out 16 kills to win game one, 30-21.

Both teams battled back and forth in game two that featured nine ties and two lead changes. UAB broke open a 22-22 tie by scoring four-straight points and holding on for a 30-26 win.

UAB jumped out to a 7-2 lead in game three. Southern Miss battled back, cutting the lead to two, 11-9, but UAB out scored the Lady Eagles, 7-2, to run its lead to 18-11. Southern Miss made one last run, but fell short, losing 30-23.

UAB produced a .246 hitting efficiency to Southern Miss' .066. However, the Golden Eagles out blocked the Blazers, 12 to seven
