Golden Eagle Track Adds Alabama Standouts

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Head Track and Field Coach Wayne Williams announced the signing of Kim Williams of Pleasant Grove, Ala., and Brittany Wood of Birmingham, Ala., for the 2004-05 academic year.

Williams, a 5-5 heptathlete, attended Pleasant Grove School High School, where she was a six-time state champion. She won back-to-back indoor state championships in the 55-meter hurdles and long jump. She also won the outdoor state championship in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump.

Wood, a 5-3 distance runner, attended Spain Park High School, where she was named her team's captain and most valuable runner on her cross country team. She earned all-state honors in Alabama 6A in cross country. She recorded personal-best times of 11:38 in the 3,200 meters, 5:16 in the 1,600 meters, 5:01 in the 1,500 meters, 11:14 in the 3,000 meters, 2:25 in the 800 meters and 1:02 in the 400 meters. She was named Alabama all-state 6A in the 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters, the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relays. She is the USATF Junior Olympic Alabama state champion in the 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters, 2,000 meters and the steeplechase.
