-- Southern Miss' men's and women's outdoor track teams recorded several regional qualifying performances Friday at the USM Invitational.
Trinity McKinney (t4th), Stephanie McCullum (t4th) and Tori Wells (6th) recorded regional qualifying marks in the 100-meter dash with times of 11.74 and 11.77, respectively. Krista Miller (t1st) and Sabrina Norwood (3rd) also recorded regional qualifying marks in the high jump at 5' 8" each. Teammate Kate Juedes (4th) finished a height of 56 and Ashley Reyer was fifth with a jump of 52.25. Dasha Wakefield finished first in the pole vault with a school record height of 120. Tanika Liburd finished first in the womens long jump competition with a jump of 202.50, a regional qualifying mark, while Sharlynn Monroe was second with a jump of 190, Shannon Weaver was fourth with a jump of 188.50, Lexi Washington fifth with a jump of 193.25, Hope Singleton sixth with a jump of 1711 and Stephanie McCullum seventh with a jump of 179. Monroe was second in the triple jump with a jump of 387.50 with Lexi Washington third with a jump of 379.50. Cassandra Goodson finished first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:00.72. Becca Wiseman finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:27.26. Angela Johnson finished first in the 200 meters with a time of 24.55, Wells was second with a time of 25.05, Kasey House fourth with a time of 25.22, Liburd was fifth with a time of 25.42 and McKinney was sixth with a time of 25.46. Candi Johnson, Alisha Edwards and Ebony Tindle finished 3-4-5 in the 400 meters with times of 57.79, 58.33, and 59.40, respectively. Naomi Kiprotich finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.87 while Liz Palmer was fifth with a time of 2:32.02 and Lydiah Chepkwony was sixth with a time of 2:37.01. Chepkwony finished first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:44.73 and Kiprotich was third with a time of 4:50.42, Palmer was fifth with a time of 5:02.81 and Tomeka Shaffer was sixth with a time of 5:08.66. The 4x100-meter relay team turned in a time of 46.03 while the 4x400-meter relay teams recorded a 3:53.62.
Shane Brandford finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.58 and Cedric Collins finished eighth with a time of 10.68. Brandford was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.64 and Durran Dunn finished in a tie for fifth with a time of 21.70. Jerry Teachey finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.34. The 4x100-meter relay team finished first with a time of 50.88 while the 4x400 meter relay team was third with a time of 3:15.75. Cedric Norman was first in the high jump with a jump of 75, running his winning streak to four meets. Robert Pittman finished second in the pole vault with a height of 135.75. Southern Miss had three Golden Eagles finish 1-2-3 in the javelin led by Jeb Meschke throw of 1988, followed by Conrad Chanove with a throw of 1971 and Marvin Lucas throw of 19311. Lucas also finished second in the long jump with a jump of 241, posting another regional qualifying mark. Corey Seals finished sixth in the long jump with a jump of 2210. Jeff Danso finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 484. Maulies Pettaway finished third in the shot with a throw of 446 and third in the hammer with a toss of 1426.
