Southern Miss Posts Improved Marks In Final Tune-up Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern Miss indoor teams competed at the LSU Twilight Invitational as its final tune-up meet before the Conference USA Indoor Championship, Feb. 26-27, in Houston, Texas.

 

Several athletes posted season-highs and improved their marks heading into the C-USA Championship.

 

Tanika Liburd posted a time of 7.71 in the 60-meter dash.  Tori Wells recorded a season-best time in the 200 meters at 26.10 as well as Kasey House with a time of 26.35.  Alisha Edwards finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.39.  Raquel Washington finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63.

 

In the field events, Shannon Weaver placed third with a season-best jump of 18’7”.  Lexi Washington finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 37’8.75”.  Krista Miller was the top finisher for the Eagles in the high jump at 5’5.25”, placing second followed by Kate Juedes at third with a jump of 5’5.25” and Lexi Washington took sixth-place with a jump of 5’0.50”.  Dasha Wakefield finished in a tie for fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10’8” and Regina Ballinger was eighth with a jump of 10’2”.

 

Corey Yates finished third in the 60-meter dash with a season-best time of 6.82, while Shane Brandford was seventh with a season-best time of 6.95.  Marvin Lucas placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 23’4”.  Corey Seals finished sixth with a season-best jump of 23’2.50” and Marcus Polk posted a season-best jump of 22’8”.  Cedric Norman finished first in the high jump with a jump of 6’11.50”.  Maulies Pettaway finished fourth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 49’5” and finished third in the weight throw, also a season-best throw of 48’10.75”.  Bobby Weakley was eighth in the shot with a throw of 41’3.75” and Logan Stogner finished seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 40’6.25”.

 

Southern Miss competes at the Conference USA Indoor Championship on Feb. 26-27, in Houston, Texas.
