HOUSTON, Texas - The Southern Miss women's tennis team posted six wins at the Cougar Fall Draw in the opening day of competition.

Lauren Gutterman advanced to the semifinals of Flight A with wins over Lucy Forward (Houston), 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and Petra Gudelj (McNeese State), 6-0, 6-2.

Elja van Berlo defeated Giorgia Pozzan (Sam Houston State), 6-1, 3-6, 10-5, in Flight A consolation draw.

Zoe Lee defeated Francesca Bassoo (Lee) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, in Flight B consolation draw.

In doubles competition, Van Berlo and Gutterman defeated Nadia Lee and Frederique Sunstrum (Lee), 8-5, while Holly Robinson and Alex Kaluza defeated Hoang Huynh and Chelsea Creed (Lee), 8-1.

Southern Miss continues play Saturday in the second day of competition.
