Southern Miss Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener to 19th Ranked Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. - The 19th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team was perfect in dominating Southern Mississippi 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center to improve to 2-0 on the season while Southern Miss dropped to 0-1.

The Lady Rebels won the doubles point with easy wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Julie DeRoo and Mira Radu downed Patty Kundisova and Jackie Prew 8-1, at the top spot and then Camilla Gould and Sabrina Peppl playing together for the first time, blanked their opponent 8-0.

DeRoo put the Lady Rebels up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kundisova at No. 1 singles. Radu followed that up by dominating Marie Lindberg 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and then Alesya Ignatieva finished off Prew 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot, to clinch the match.

At the No. 5 position, Gould downed Molly Boutreis 6-0, 6-2 to make it 5-0, and then the freshmen - Florencia Basile and Peppl, playing in their first collegiate match, finished it off. Basile defeated Shawna Price 7-5, 6-2 and Peppl cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tina Rautajoki.

The Lady Eagles return to action Feb. 2, at Mississippi State at 2:30 p.m.
