Southern Miss Women's Tennis Team Getting Ready To Start Season
against Ole Miss, on Saturday, January 20, at 3:00 pm, in Oxford, Miss. The Lady Rebels, who are

ranked 19th in the nation, are coming off a 7-0 win over Middle Tennessee State in their season

opener.

The Eagles finished last season 12-12 overall, 1-3 in C-USA, and finished 10th in the C-USA

Tournament. This will be the first season for head coach Susan Aurich. Aurich comes to

Southern Miss from Eastern Kentucky where she was a graduate assistant coach for two years.

The 2001 team returns all of the players from last season except for Caroline Weems and Almut

Gaude. With four seniors returning, the Lady Eagles will have plenty of leadership. Senior

standout Jackie Prew is coming off a 13-14 overall record and 2-1 record in the conference

tournament last season.

Ole Miss has two singles players who are ranked nationally. Sophomore Julie DeRoo is ranked

No. 7, and Mira Radu is ranked No. 42. Together, both girls are ranked No. 12 in doubles play.
