Women's Tennis Team Drops Match To Cal State-Northridge, 5-2
March 15, 2007 NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- - The women's tennis team lost for only the second time this spring, losing to Cal State-Northridge, 5-2, Wednesday. The Lady Eagles opened the match, winning the doubles' point. Ali Blackett and Grace Kammerer defeated Kasia Krasinska and Sonya Kumar (CSUN), 8-3, at No. 3 doubles. With the win, Blackett and Kammerer run their streak to 17 straight wins. Sherry Price and Brittany Serret downed Silvia Gutierrez and Ana Matijasevic (CSUN), 8-4, at No. 1 doubles for the 1-0 lead. Stephanie Dellocono and Lauren Gutterman lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, to Kanykey Koichumanova and Canna Furuta (CSUN). Blackett had a 10-match winning-streak snapped with a loss at No. 3 singles, when Furuta won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, evening the match at 1-1. CSUN pushed ahead 3-1, with a wins at No. 6 singles, after Kumar downed Kammerer, 6-4, 6-1, and at No. 5 singles when Krasinska defeated Gutterman, 6-1, 7-5. Koichumanova clinched the match for the Matadors at No. 2 singles, knocking off Serret, 6-3, 6-4. Dellocono won the Lady Eagles' second point at No. 4 singles with a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-3 win over Matijasevic. Price lost a hard fought three-set match at No. 1 singles to Gutierrez, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. Southern Miss returns to action on Friday when the team travels to Loyola Marymount for a match.
