LORMAN, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team topped Alcorn State, 4-3, in women's tennis action Tuesday. Southern Miss won the doubles point, taking the 1-0 lead to start the match. Stephanie Dellocono and Brittany Serret prevailed at No. 1, 9-8, over Swetha Deveraj and Sarah Jo Peters, while Ali Blackett and Shannon Rogers downed Stefanie Guzman and Katherine Hoepelman, 8-5, at No. 2. Zoe Lee and Natalia Parrado finished the sweep at No. 3 with an 8-5 win over Felicia Chien and Avernelle Holder. Alcorn evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 6 singles. Southern Miss then took wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 3. Gutterman downed Martina Garda in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Lee with a 6-0, 6-2, win over Chien and Dellocono clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2, win over Hoepelman. Brittany Serret lost to Guzman, 7-6, 6-4, while it took two tie-breakers for Deveraj to defeat Sherry Price, 7-6, 7-6. Southern Miss returns to action, Mar. 14, when the Lady Eagles host Louisiana-Monroe at Tatum Park at 2 p.m.
