The Southern Miss women's tennis team lost to Conference USA opponent UAB, 5-2, Friday. UAB opened the match by winning the doubles' point. All three matches were decided by an 8-6 score. Southern Miss took the No. 1 doubles match with Brittany Serret and Stephanie Dellocono defeating Antonia Nugent and Evelien Strijker. Gulash Esen and Giorgia Romeo won at No. 2 doubles against Sherry Pirce and Shannon Rogers, followed by Seden Soyalp and Jenny Cape knocking off Ali Blackett and Lauren Gutterman. Four of the six matches were decided in three sets. Southern Miss posted wins at No. 1 and 3 singles. Price had to come from a set down to defeat Strijker, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1. At No. 3, Blackett also came from a set down to take a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, win over Nugent. UAB claimed wins at No. 2, 4, 5 and 6. Esen earned a 7-6, 6-2, in straight sets over Serret at No. 2. while Cape downed Dellocono, 7-6, 6-4. Rounding out the singles, Zoe Lee took Soyalp three sets before losing, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The Blazers ended the match with Romeo claiming a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, win at No. 6 over Gutterman. Southern Miss returns to action on Sunday against Northwestern (La.) State
