Lady Eagles Win C-USA Tournament, Beat DePaul, 2-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sarah Boyd stroked a double to left field to score both runs in the fourth inning, and the Southern Miss softball team won its second consecutive conference tournament title over DePaul, 2-0.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Felicia Gonzales collected her third victory, second of the day, and her second shutout of the event. She gave up five hits and two walks, improving her record to 29-9 on the year.

Boyd, who made the all-tournament team, went two-for-two in the game with a double and two RBIs. She was seven-for-13 (.538) in the five games with two doubles, one triple and three RBIs.

Channika Gant and pinch-runner Melanie Hymel scored on Boyd's double in the fourth. Gant was one-for-three in the game. Heather Bell was one-for-two.

Kenya Peters and Tammy Edwards also received All-Tournament honors.

Sarah Martz led DePaul, hitting two-for-three. The Blue Demons stranded six runners on base as Gonzales pitched herself out of trouble on two situations with runners in scoring positions.
