Lady Eagles Beat South Florida, 1-0, Face DePaul-Louisville Winner
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sarah Boyd drove in Kenya Peters in the top of the fourth for all the run production by Southern Miss, but Felicia Gonzales threw her 17th shutout of the season to beat South Florida, 1-0, in the Lady Eagles' second win of the Conference USA tournament.

Boyd was two-for-three in the game, with a double and a run batted in. She is now four-for-six in the tournament, with two runs, a double, a triple and one RBI.

Gonzales fanned 10 Bulls for her 18th double-figure strikeout this year. She gave up three hits and one walk, improving her record to 27-9.

Peters led off the top of the fourth by getting hit by a pitch. Channika Gant's ground out advanced Peters to second, and Bell singled her to third. Boyd came up and stroked the pitch up the middle for the only run of the game.

"Felecia threw well, but she was due to throw well," states Southern Miss Head Coach Gay McNutt. "She needed to come out and do what she did.

"Sarah was clutch. She hit the ball well yesterday and is starting off well in the tournament. Sarah knows what this game and this tournament is about."

Heather Bell was also two-for-three with a double. South Florida was led by Shelly Riker, Cindy Turek and Ginny Georgantas who each batted one-for-two.

Pitcher Jesse Kowal (21-12) went six and a third innings and struck out five for the Bulls. She gave up four hits and one walk.

Southern Miss now faces the winner of the DePaul-Louisville game at 6:30, this evening.
