During the 2006 Southern Miss Lady Eagle Softball season, senior second baseman Charity Butler will sit down with Southern Miss Media Relations intern Mallory Haynes to discuss the ins and outs of Lady Eagle Softball.

Diary Entry #3: April 6, 2006

On this past week:

"It's been a good week, especially since we are at the top of the conference right now (7-2 C-USA), which is amazing. We still aren't where we expected to be record-wise (21-24 overall), but we're sitting in a good place. We're ready to go to Memphis this weekend, and hopefully get a sweep, with our main focus on trying to step up our game. We took a hard loss the other day against Louisiana-Lafayette, but I think they are the best team we've played so far. We're trying to move on, learn from that loss and move in a new direction."

On her physical strength this far into the season:

"I'm not as tired as I used to be at this point. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I don't have a tough class load. I'm not having to stay up all night studying and doing the things that I had to do in the past. I'm getting to sleep more. The first month or so was tough because we were traveling so much, but we've been home a lot recently. Overall, I feel good physically and mentally."

On Spring Break plans:

"We normally don't get to have a Spring Bread because we always traveled or had home games, but this year we don't have any games, so I don't' know what the plan is. Usually, when we don't have class we have two-a-days, but I haven't heard any specific plans yet."

On life after softball as graduation looms:

"I'm going to be heading home to work with my dad doing real estate and development, so I don't have to go through any interviews or have to send out resumes. I'm ready to get my feet wet and figure out what the real world is all about. I'm going to try to get my real estate license and my building license, so there is still more studying to do. So I'll be excited about it when it comes, but I'm focused on softball right now, and I would rather win a conference championship and worry about all of that other stuff later."
