Women's Soccer Soars Into Fifth Place With 5-2 Win Over Tulane
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss opened up a 2-0 lead in the first

half and never looked back as it beat Tulane 5-2, and clinched the fifth seed

in the C-USA tournament, Friday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.

Southern Miss (9-7-0, 6-5-0) wasted no time getting on the board as Leila

McReynolds scored her third goal of the season in the third minute of the

match to give the Lady Eagles a quick 1-0 lead. Stacey Hall scored her 12th

goal of the season in the 44th minute for a 2-0 Lady Eagle lead at the end of

the first half.

Southern Miss scored its first goal of the second half only 14 minutes

into the half when Lindsay Canham gathered a loose rebound off a previous

shot and beat Jaclyn Urso. Tricia Wiles got into the scoring act with a goal

in the 63rd minute to give Soutehrn Miss a 4-0 lead.

Tulane (8-10-0, 5-6-0) scored a pair of goals in the last 15 minutes of

the match and Lindsay Canham tacked on a another goal to give Southern Miss

the 5-2 win.

"This was a great win for us today," said Southern Miss Head Coach Matt

Clark. "It's a great momentum builder going into the conference tournament.

We put a lot of pressure on them and were able to score some good goals. I

was real proud of how our seniors got to end their career at home today."

Friday was the last home match for Ashleigh DeHuff, Stacey Hall, Hope

Herron, Souhaila McReynolds, and Samantha Miller.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday, November 1, when they play

Charlotte in the Conference USA tournament in St. Louis, in a 3 p.m. match.
