Inaugural Golden Eagle Soccer Classic
Links associated with this release: Inaugural Golden Eagle Soccer Classic Hattiesburg, Miss. - The first-ever Golden Eagle Soccer Classic kicks off the Southern Miss women's soccer 2001 schedule, one that includes nine home matches and 10 Conference USA bouts. The Lady Eagles, who had their best-ever C-USA finish last season at 6-5, open the 2001 season hosting the Golden Eagle Soccer Classic. Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee State, and Alabama A&M are participants in the tournament, which will be held at the Marshall Bell Track and Soccer Complex August 31 and September 2. In addition to the opening tournament, the Lady Eagles will play in seven home matches, including conference foes Charlotte, East Carolina, UAB, South Florida and TCU. Other home games include non-conference opponents McNeese State and South Alabama. Southern Miss' first road weekend includes games against Gardner-Webb and Arkansas-Little Rock. The match against Gardner-Webb, slated for September 7 will be held on the campus of Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, La. Trips to C-USA opponents Cincinnati, Louisville, Houston and Tulane are also on the slate. The team also visits Nicholls State, Louisiana-Monroe, and Louisiana-Lafayette.
