BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- - The Southern Miss women's soccer team recorded a 1-0 shut out over UAB in Conference USA action on Sunday, improving to 8-9-0 for the season and 4-4-0 in league play.

"I am delighted with the win today," Head Coach Gail Macklin said. "We had a good game plan that we executed. We wanted to force UAB to take shots from far out. This match was very one-sided with UAB having most of the possessions. Out team came in with a good attitude and we were hungry for a win."

The Eagles scored the only goal in the 66th minute, when freshman Bianca Ontiveros took a pass from Samantha Polley, beating a defender one-on-one to take a shot near the post from six-yards out.

The goal marked the third goal of the season for Ontiveros. Goalkeeper Anna Fiser recorded her fourth shutout, finishing the match with seven saves.

UAB (out-shot the Eagles 21-4, including seven shots on goal. Southern Miss concludes its regular season at UCF on Nov. 2. The Golden Eagles will have to wait until the final weekend of play to find out whether or not they have qualified for the C-USA Tournament, Nov. 7-11, in El Paso, Texas.
