OXFORD, Miss. - The Southern Miss soccer team's unbeaten streak will stall at four games as they dropped a 1-0 decision at Ole Miss Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles were off to an impressive 3-0-1 start before losing a tight 1-0 game at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex to the Rebels.

The four game unbeaten streak to start the season was the fourth best start in school history and is equally impressive considering that Southern Miss has played the first five games of the season over a 10 day period with none of those games at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.

"Ole Miss played with a lot of enthusiasm and moved the ball very well today," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We played better in the second half but we have to learn to be more discipline and play with more fire if we want to continue to succeed."

The game was scoreless through the first half and into the 56th minute before the Rebels Hannah Weatherly scored the games only goal as she took a cross pass from Taylor Cunningham and connected from about five yards out.

The two teams remained scoreless through the final 34 minutes to preserve the 1-0 Ole Miss advantage.

Southern Miss (3-1-1) keeper Holly Cox saved six shots as the Rebels fired 18 shots in the game. The Golden Eagles managed only four shots in the game, two on goal.

The Golden Eagles will return to action next Friday as they visit Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.

"We will have to play for a full 90 minutes on Friday, Southeastern is a good team and we have to play to our strength and move the ball better than we did today."

Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana officials will be monitoring Hurricane Ike's impact on the area as the game approaches.
