Two Women's Golfers Rank in Top 15 After First Day of UAB Beach Bash

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's golfers Rebecka Nilsson and Samantha Holt rank in the top 15 after the opening round of the UAB Beach Bash being played at The Peninsula in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Nilsson, a freshman from Laholm, Sweden, tallied an 83 over the first 18 holes, while Holt, a freshman from Pensacola, Fla., notched an 84.

Sophomore Heather Golden of Biloxi, Miss., shot a 85 over the first round to rank tied for 18th place, while sophomore Kate Burns of Leesburg, Va., tallied an 86 for a 20th place tie. Junior Jennifer Bodemann of Palm City, Fla., rounded out the Golden Eagle finishers with an 87 and a 22nd place tie.

The Golden Eagles shot a 338 to hold fourth-place in the team competition of the five teams in the event. Birmingham-Southern collected the best round to lead the event with a 300 stroke total, while Mercer was next at 328, followed by Marshall at 331, the Golden Eagles and host UAB at 360.

BSC's Sara Hunt shot a one-under-par 71 to hold the lead, besting teammate Jill Stupiansky by two strokes, who finished her first day with a 73.

The event concludes Tuesday with another 18 holes.
