Women's Golf Closes Fall Season in Fourth Place at UAB Fall Beach Bash

Gulf Shores, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot a final round 307 to earn a fourth-place finish at the UAB Fall Beach Bash. The tournament was played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. With the end of the tournament, the team concludes its 2008-09 fall season. Sophomore Virginia Espejo shot a 73 finish with an eight-over par 152 in a tied for 14th-place. Juniors Rebecka Nilsson and Clara Viladomiu tied for 24th-place at 156. Viladomiu shot a 77, while Nilsson closed with a 78. Junior Samantha Holt finished in 29th-place after shooting an 81 for a 157, while senior Heather Golden shot a 79 to close in a tie for 36th-place. Columbia's Stevy Loy won the individual competition with a two-under par 142. Belmont's Lorie Warren and Christian Wentworth of UAB tied for second with a one-over par 145. Columbia University won the team competition with a 21-over 597. Samford was six shots back (603) in second place. Jacksonville State finished in third with 618 strokes, while Southern Miss finished with 619 to earn a fourth-place. Indiana State and Cincinnati tied for fifth with 620 strokes, while Texas-San Antonio finished with 621 strokes to finish in seventh. Host school UAB finished in eighth after shooting a 624, followed by Texas-Pan American (631), Belmont (635), West Florida (641), Marshall (642), Louisiana-Monroe (646) and Lipscomb (647).
