Gulf Shores, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot a 312 to sit in sixth place after Day One of the UAB Fall Beach Bash. The tournament is being played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Junior Samantha Holt posted a four-over 76 to tie for 16th-place with five other golfers.

Junior Rebecka Nilsson is tied for 27th-place after shooting a 78. Junior Clara Viladomiu and sophomore Virginia Espejo tied for 29th-place after shooting a 79, while senior Heather Golden shot an 80 to sit in 34th-place.

Samford's Sara Hunt leads the individual competition with a one-under par 71. Columbia's Lynda Kwon is in second with an even par 72, and four golfers are tied for third. Columbia University leads the team competition with a nine-over 297. Samford is three shots back (301) in second place. Texas-San Antonio is in third with 303 strokes, while Indiana State finished with 308 to sit in fourth. Cincinnati is in fifth with 310 strokes, while Southern Miss finished with 312 strokes to sit in sixth. Jacksonville State is in seventh after shooting a 313, followed by host school UAB (314) and West Florida (317). Texas-Pan American and Marshall are tied for tenth with (318), followed by Belmont (321), Lipscomb (324) and Louisiana-Monroe (330).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final 18. Play tees-off with an 8 a.m. shot gun start.
