Women's Golf Tied for Fifth Heading into Final Round of Chris Banister Golf Classic

Gadsden, Ala. - The Southern Miss women's golf team shot a second round 310 to head into the final round of the Chris Banister Golf Classic in a tie for fifth place. The season-opening tournament is being hosted by Jacksonville State University and is being played at the Silver Creek Golf Course.

For the second straight day, sophomore Virginia Espejo shot a one-over par 73 to sit in a tie for fourth-place. Juniors Samantha Holt (79-79), Clara Viladomiu (77-81) and Amy Roberts (80-78) are all tied for 29th-place with 158 strokes. Junior Rebecka Nilsson (81-80) rounds out the Lady Eagles' scoring with 161 strokes to tie for 38th-place.

Middle Tennessee State's Steph Gough is in first-place with an even par 144 strokes. UT-Chattanooga's Maria Salinas and Ashley Cox of Jacksonville State are tied for second with 145 strokes.

Chattanooga (288-299) leads the team scoring with 587 strokes. Middle Tennessee State (303-299) is in second place with 602 strokes, followed by Murray State (308-304) with 612 strokes. Host school Jacksonville State (310-306) is in fourth with 616 strokes.

Western Kentucky (309-310) and Southern Miss (309-310) are tied for fifth-place with 6190 strokes, followed by Eastern Kentucky (314-314 - 628), Florida Gulf Coast (315-315 - 630), Austin Peay State (322-315 - 637) and Northeastern State (321-347 - 668).

Southern Miss closes out the tournament tomorrow. Play begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
