Mobile, Ala. - Freshman Virginia Espejo shot a one-over 73 to lead Southern Miss, who is in second place after Day One of the USA Jaguar Invitational, hosted by South Alabama at the Azalea City Golf Course

Espejo is tied for the overall lead with Natalia Girardo of East Tennessee State and Middle Tennessee State's Jamie Dillard.

Heather Golden and Samantha Holt each shot a 76 to tie for 11th-place. Freshman Jennifer Judge shot an 81, and Kate Burns shot an 86 to tie for 63rd and 85th place, respectively.

East Tennessee State leads the team competition with a 301, seven strokes ahead of second place Southern Miss (308). Lamar and Belmont are tied for third with 311 strokes. Jacksonville State sits in fifth with 312, and McNeese State is in sixth with 313. Samford and Kennesaw State are tied for seventh with 314 strokes, and UAB is in ninth with 316.

Austin Peay shot a 318 for a tenth place finish, followed by Jackson State (320). Louisiana-Monroe, Middle Tennessee State and South Alabama (321) are all tied for 12th-place, followed by Winthrop (324), Arkansas State (327), Troy (328) and Nicholls State (329).

The tournament concludes Tuesday morning with the final 18. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
