HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team is one of 48 teams competed in the 2008 WNIT Postseason Tournament. The Lady Eagles received the automatic berth after UTEP received an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Southern Miss opens play Thursday, when the Lady Eagles host UALR at 7 p.m., in Reed Green Coliseum. The winner of this game will play Mississippi State.

Southern Miss enters the game with a 19-13 record, after advancing to the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament.

The last time the Lady Eagles played in postseason was in 1999-2000, when the Lady Eagles played in the first round of the WNIT against Georgia Tech.

The UALR women's basketball team is 23-8 overall after clinching their first ever Sun Belt West Division title and recording school records of 23 overall and 14 conference wins.

This will be the fifth meeting between Southern Miss and UALR with the Trojans leading the all-time series 3-1. The last meeting between the two teams was on December 7, 2006 in Hattiesburg, Miss. UALR won 70-49.
