Cellular One to Sponsor Lady Eagle "Break the Record" Game
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The February 16 Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball game

against UAB will be special, because it will be televised locally on

Comcast/Chapter (CSS), but another highlight will make the game even more

appealing to Golden Eagle fans.

Cellular One will sponsor the game, and has designated the game as "Break the

Record" game. For the second-straight year, Southern Miss will attempt to

break the state record for the highest attendance at a women's basketball

game. The standing record of 5,863 is currently held by Mississippi State,

who set the new attendance record last season on February 17, 2000, against

Tennessee. The standing school record for Southern Miss is 5,024, set last

season on Feb. 12, 2000, against Houston in a nationally-televised game.

The game will start at 7 p.m., at Reed Green Coliseum.

"I think this will be another great accomplishment for women's basketball, as

well as for the community and other sports programs," Southern Miss Head

Coach Rick Reeves said. "This type of effort will benefit not only the

colleges, but also high schools in this area as well. It's a great way to

give back to the community."

Tickets for admission and the many giveaways, can be secured at any local

Cellular One location, or the Pat Ferlise Center, compliments of Cellular One.

"Not only will you see a great game, but one lucky fan will shoot from

half-court for $10,000," said Cellular One spokesman Kevin Pack. "It's

guaranteed to be one exciting Friday night."

Southern Miss Athletic Director Richard Giannini also believes that the event

will benefit the entire Golden Eagle program. "We"re looking forward to

setting a new record," he said. "We think we have an outstanding group of

young women playing for us, an outstanding coaching staff leading them, and

we look forward to having the entire Hattiesburg community, along with all

Southern Miss fans come out and help us break this record and truly support

one of our outstanding programs.

she said. "Last time we played we outscored them in the second half at
