Cellular One to Sponsor Lady Eagle "Break the Record" Game
Cellular One to Sponsor Lady Eagle "Break the Record" Game against UAB will be special, because it will be televised locally on Comcast/Chapter (CSS), but another highlight will make the game even more appealing to Golden Eagle fans. Cellular One will sponsor the game, and has designated the game as "Break the Record" game. For the second-straight year, Southern Miss will attempt to break the state record for the highest attendance at a women's basketball game. The standing record of 5,863 is currently held by Mississippi State, who set the new attendance record last season on February 17, 2000, against Tennessee. The standing school record for Southern Miss is 5,024, set last season on Feb. 12, 2000, against Houston in a nationally-televised game. The game will start at 7 p.m., at Reed Green Coliseum. "I think this will be another great accomplishment for women's basketball, as well as for the community and other sports programs," Southern Miss Head Coach Rick Reeves said. "This type of effort will benefit not only the colleges, but also high schools in this area as well. It's a great way to give back to the community." Tickets for admission and the many giveaways, can be secured at any local Cellular One location, or the Pat Ferlise Center, compliments of Cellular One. "Not only will you see a great game, but one lucky fan will shoot from half-court for $10,000," said Cellular One spokesman Kevin Pack. "It's guaranteed to be one exciting Friday night." Southern Miss Athletic Director Richard Giannini also believes that the event will benefit the entire Golden Eagle program. "We"re looking forward to setting a new record," he said.
