Brooks Donald Williams is in her second season with the Lady Eagle basketball program as the recruiting coordinator. Her other duties include assisting the women's basketball program as the team's compliance liaison and on-the-floor coaching of the guards. Donald Williams comes to Southern Miss following one season for Coach Joye Lee-McNelis at Memphis where she served as the recruiting coordinator, the team's academic liaison and assisted with post development on the court. Donald Williams was instrumental is signing McNelis' first Lady Eagle recruiting class this past season. Her efforts were rewarded with the signing of the Mississippi High School Player of the Year, the Arkansas Player of the Year, as well as the 10th-ranked guard in the country and a Junior College All-American point guard. Prior to her stint at Memphis, Donald Williams was an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock for three years. While at UALR, she was responsible for recruiting, assisting with scouting and preparation for opponents, was the academic and compliance liaison and assisted with guard and post development. She also served as interim head coach following the 2002-03 season. The Jennings, La., native served as head girls' basketball coach at Saint Thomas More High School in Lafayette, La., before joining McNelis at Memphis in the summer of 2003. She also founded her own basketball camp. Donald Williams has extensive coaching experience at the AAU level, having worked with the Acadiana Stars from 1995-2000. In 1999, she coached the Mississippi Pride 17-and-under team that participated in the National Tournament in Clarksville, Tenn. Donald Williams, 27, received her bachelor's in education from Mississippi State in 2000 with an emphasis in sports communication. While at MSU, Donald was a member of the Lady Bulldogs for one year before a knee injury cut her collegiate career short. She also was a four-year letterwinner at Jennings High School. She is the daughter of David and Brenda Donald. She was recently married to Tyler Craig Williams of Memphis, Tenn., who serves as the Southern Miss marketing director for recreational sports. |
