Southern Miss Track and Field Adds An All-American at NCAA Championships
June 15, 2007 HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - Southern Miss junior quarter-miler Cornelius Duncan (Birmingham, Ala.) was named to the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-America Team in the 400 meters announced by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Duncan finished 10th overall in the semifinals of the 400 meters with a time of 46.20. He will compete in the 2007 USA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., June 20-24, in the 400 meters. Duncan becomes the sixth outdoor All-American, joining former Golden Eagles Jason Wilson, Wenston Riley, Cedric Norman (two times), and Raquel Washington. Tanika Liburd earned indoor All-American status after finishing eighth in the long jump at the 2007 Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. A total of 90 Division I institutions were represented on the 2007 Men's All-American Team. In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including relays, are eligible for All-America status. In the individual (non-relay) events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All-Americans.
