Golden Eagle Track Teams Perform Well At the LSU Alumni Gold

Marvin Pinnock recorded a season-best time of 1:52.89 in 800 meters


The Southern Miss track and field teams turned in several season-best performances at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet on Saturday.

Golden Eagle Edward Pearce recorded a season-best time of 22.57 in the 200 meters, while Aaron Stallworth ran a season-best time of 51.04 in the 400 meters.

Marvin Pinnock finished eighth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:52.89 and teammate Brandon McCray had a season-best time of 1:54.77.

William Garrett recorded a season-best time of 10:01.25 in the steeplechase, finishing fourth.

The 4x100-meter relay team posted a season-best time of 42.46 and finished eighth. The 4x400-meter relay team was sixth with a time of 3:14.66.

In the field events, Ahmed Abdelzaher finished eighth with a jump of 6'7.50" in the high jump. Marcus Brown was seventh in the discus, posting a season-best mark of 162'9", and took third-place in the hammer with a throw of 175'11".

The Lady Eagles produced several season-best performances as well, with Angela Johnson recording a season-best time of 24.22 in the 200 meters. Teammates Tori Wells and Erica Alston also posted season-best times in the 200 meters, recording times of 24.35 and 24.82, respectively.

Tanika Liburd finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.86 and Johnson was fourth with a time of 11.90.

Ronna Sandoval finished fifth in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 18:46.69.

Raquel Washington turned in a season-best time of 13.19 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing third overall. Ashley Reyer ran a season-best time of 1:01.93 in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 4x100-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 45.53, while the 4x400-meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:50.75.

Liburd recorded a season-best mark of 20'10.50" in the long jump, finishing first overall. Simona Costache was third in the triple jump with a jump of 52'4.25" and Aaliyah Shareef posted a season-best and regional qualifying mark of 40'5", finishing fifth. Hana Prudilova was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 145'1".

Several members of the track and field team will compete in the Drake Relays, April 27-29, in Des Moines, Iowa, while the remaining team with travel to Monroe, La., to compete in the ULM Invitational, April 29.
