HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team recorded 12 match wins in the first day of action at the Southern Miss Fall Invitational played at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

Newcomer Patricio Alvarado won both matches in his flight, posting a 6-4, 6-2, win over Stephen Siska (SLU) and a 6-4, 6-1 win over Radu Lonescu (Nicholls).

Diego Machuca recorded two wins, 6-4, 6-0 over Paul Derkay (SLU) and 6-1, 6-3 against Sami Mouline (Nicholls). Andrew Poole put wins in his column, 6-1, 6-3 against teammate Jan Burmeister and 6-3, 6-3 over Rohan Shetty (Nicholls).

Domagoj Anic went 1-1 on the day, defeating Benjamin Enke (SLU), 6-1, 6-2, before losing to Vlad Popa (Nicholls), 6-4, 6-2. Oscar Machuca topped Guillaume Capouin (SLU), 6-3, 6-2, and lost to Eric Fisher (Nicholls), 6-0, 6-1. Strate Krstevski knocked off teammate Markus Wessinghage, 6-4, 6-3, and lost to Alex Emery (UAB), 6-4, 6-2. Felipe Sylva defeated John Holliman (UAB), 6-3, 6-3.

In the doubles' flight, Diego Machuca and Markus Wessinghage out lasted Dan Cornei and John Holliman (UAB), 8-5, while Oscar Machuca and Strate Krstevski knocked off Rohan Shetty and Sami Mouline (Nicholls), 8-3.
