Men's Tennis Team Shuts Out Alcorn State, 7-0

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. -- - The men's tennis team posted its fourth-straight win, shutting out Alcorn State, 7-0, in tennis action on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles improve to 8-6 on the season, giving up only one loss in the doubles' competition when Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage lost to Shashank Kulkarni and Abhaya Prakash, 8-6.

Domagoj Anic and Will Thames defeated Michael Okada and Fedor Krushchev, 8-2; and Diego and Oscar Machuca defeated Juan Hernandez and Azia Abdurazzakov, 8-2, earning the doubles' point.

Southern Miss swept the singles, not losing a set. Diego Machuca won at No. 1 singles over Prakash, 6-1, 6-2, while Oscar Machuca won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, against Kulharni. Wessinghage downed Okada, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, while Strate Krstevski knocked off Abdurazzakov, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4. Rounding out the sweep, Wren Hood defeated Kruschev, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 and Callen Fraychineaud got past Hernandez, 7-5, 6-0.

Southern Miss returns to action on Sunday with a match against Florida A&M at the Racquet Club at 1 p.m.
