CLEMSON, SC - The Golden Eagle tennis team posted two wins in the first day of the Clemson Invitational, defeating Charleston Southern, 6-1, and The Citadel, 4-3. Southern Miss earned the doubles' point, winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Eagles proceeded to win five of the six singles against the Bucs. Domagoj Anic (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) winner at No. 2, while Jan Burmeister (7-6, 7-6) winner at No. 3, Oscar Machuca (3-6, 6-4, 7-6) winner at No. 4, Diego Machuca (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) winner at No. 5 and Markus Wessinghage (4-6, 6-0, 6-0) winner at No. 6. Southern Miss then followed with a 4-3 win over the Citadel, capturing the doubles' point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The Golden Eagles held on after posting wins at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles. Southern Miss (4-8) returns to action Saturday, facing SC State at 10:30 a.m., and Toledo at 1 p.m.
