AUBURN, Ala. -- No. 44 Arizona State defeated the Golden Eagles, 7-0, Saturday. The Sun Devils earned the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Matt Brooklyn and TJ Bellama downed Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage, 8-3, while Wes Miller and John Nanosky defeated Domagoj Anic and Jan Burmeister, 8-5. The team of Andres Arango and Juan Carlos Rebaza dropped their match 8-5 to Diego Machuca and Oscar Machuca then knocked off Andres Arango and Juan Carlos Rebaza, 8-5, giving the Eagles their only win of the day. The Sun Devils swept the singles plays, but not without a fight. No. 1 singles, senior Rebaza easily defeated Anic lost at No. 1 to Rebaza in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Poole lost to Arango, 6-1, 6-2. Brooklyn topped Wessinghage, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3. In the bottom half of the lineup, Miller had to come from behind to take a three-setter from Oscar Machuca at No. 4, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2. Diego Machuca battled through three sets leading to tie-breakers before falling to Bellama, 6-7 (6), 7-6(10), 7-6 (10) at No. 5. Nanosky claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over Burmeister at No. 6. Southern Miss returns to action, Feb. 17, when the Golden Eagles travel to LSU to play a match that was rescheduled because of weather.
