LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team dropped its third straight match Saturday with a 5-2 loss to St. Mary's College (Calif.) in the UNLV Classic. The Golden Eagles opened the match, winning the doubles' point when Domagoj Anic and Jan Burmeister defeated Achim Christner and Lucas Tirelli (SMC), 8-6. Diego and Oscar Machuca followed with an 8-6 win over Andrea Zannoni and Jerry Ellison (SMC). Joel Kusnierz and Marek Dvork knocked off Andrew Poole and Strate Krstevski, 8-2. Southern Miss got its second point when Krstevski downed Ellison in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Rounding out the remainder of the tennis singles, Poole lost to Kusnierz, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Oscar Machuca lost to Dvorak, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Burmeister lost to Christner at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3. Anic lost in a three-setter, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, at No. 2 singles; and Diego Machuca lost at No. 5 singles, in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Southern Miss concludes its final day at the UNLV Classic against New Mexico State.
