TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Golden Eagle tennis team lost at No. 13th ranked Alabama, 7-0, Saturday at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. Southern Miss falls to 1-1, while Alabama improved to 3-0. The Crimson Tide opened the match winning all three of the doubles' matches. Daniel Buikema and Mathieu Thibaudeau (UA) knocked off Andrew Poole and Markus Wessinghage, 8-3. Alabama clinched the doubles' point, winning at No. 3 doubles, when Javier Bes and Jordie Kindervater (UA) downed Jan Brumeister and Oscar Machuca, 8-3. The Tide wrapped up the doubles with Saketh Myneni and Trey Walston (UA) battled Domagoj Anic and Diego Machuca to an 8-5 win. In singles, Anic lost to Sammy Struyf (UA), 6-2, 6-0. Buikema (UA) downed Diego Machuca, 6-2, 6-2. Alabama clinched the match with No. 99 Thibaudeau (UA) defeating Poole, 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out the remaining matches were Houssam Yassine (UA) defeating Strate Krstevski (USM), 7-6 (7-5), 6-1; Bes (UA) outlasting Brumeister (USM), 6-3, 6-4; and Andrew Felsenthal (UA) getting past Oscar Machuca (USM), 7-5, 6-3. Southern Miss returns to action, Jan. 29, when the Golden Eagles travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on No. 19 LSU at 1 p.m.
