Men's Golf Holds Down Ninth After Two Rounds of Club Grove Intercollegiate
Oct. 23, 2006 HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's golfers Alex Park and Paul Apyan sit in the top 20 of The Club Glove Intercollegiate being played at the par-72, 6,985-yard Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif., after two rounds of play Monday. Park, a freshman from Ithaca, N.Y., holds a four-way tie for 12th-place after shooting rounds of 75 and 76 for a 151 stroke total. Apyan, a redshirt freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., fired a 77 and 75 for a 152 and a 16th-place tie. Freshman Tyler Sparks (Belmont, Miss.) ranks in a 50th-place tie after tallying a 163 with rounds of 79 and 84, while senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.) is tied for 58th with a 166 total, including rounds of 82 and 84. Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) is in 62nd place wit a 173, after compiling rounds of 94 and 79. The Golden Eagles tallied rounds of 313 and 314 as a team for a 627 total and sit in ninth place of the 12 teams. Lamar ranks first in the team scoring with a 594, tallying rounds of 296 and 298. Jason Kokrak of Xavier and Oliver Bekker of Lamar are tied for the tournament lead after compiling a two-over 146. Lamar is followed in the team scoring by Louisville (596), Pepperdine (599), New Mexico (605), Houston (610), Xavier (615), Colorado (624), Kent State (626), Southern Miss, UC Riverside (640), and Kansas State and New Mexico State (642). The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played Tuesday.
