Golden Eagles in Sixth-Place Tie after Day One of Squire Creek Invitational

Ruston, La. - The Southern Miss men's golf team is in a tie for sixth-place, eight shots back of the lead heading into the final day of the Squire Creek Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Louisiana Tech University and is being played at Squire Creek Country Club. Redshirt freshman Freddie Janneck leads the Golden Eagles, sitting in a tie for ninth-place at three-under par after shooting 71-70, four shots off the lead. Redshirt junior Paul Apyan is tied for 13th-place, firing rounds of 73 and 69 to sit at two-under par. Junior Tyler Sparks shot 77-70 for a tie for 38th-place. Senior Rocky Cleland is in a tie for 52nd-place after shooting rounds of 76 and 73, and junior Wes Carter is tied for 67th with 82-69. LSU's Jarrod Barsamian is seven-under to lead after two rounds, while five golfers are tied for second at five-under. LSU (286-281) and New Orleans (292-275) are tied for the team lead with 567 strokes. Louisville is in third-place with 572 strokes (284-288). Louisiana-Lafayette (290-284) and Nevada (295-279) are tied for fourth-place with 574 strokes. Southern Miss (297-278) is in a sixth-place tie with Ole Miss (291-284), shooting 575. Southeastern Louisiana is in eighth with 577 strokes (292-285). Arkansas-Little Rock is in ninth with 578 (299-279) strokes, followed by Arkansas State (293-288 - 581), Middle Tennessee State (295-287 - 582), Louisiana Tech (294-291 - 584), Nebraska (287-300 - 587), UT-Arlington (296-293 - 589), South Alabama (305-293 - 598) and Louisiana-Monroe (304-300 - 604). Southern Miss closes out the tournament tomorrow. Play begins at 8:00 a.m.
