Texarkana, Ark. - Southern Miss redshirt sophomore Paul Apyan shot a final round one-over 73 to lead the Golden Eagles to a second-place finish at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships, being played at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.

The second place finish was the best mark for Southern Miss in the 12-year history of the Golf Championships.

Apyan finished with a three-round total of 210 to finish in a tie for third place with Tulsa's Rob Laird. The third place finish tied the highest finish for a men's golfer at the C-USA Championships. Greg Howell also finished in third in 1998.

Senior Kyle Ramey fired a two-under 70. His total of 220 strokes put him in a tie for 17th-place.

Sophomore Wes Carter and junior Rocky Cleland finished in a tie for 23rd-place at four-over par. Carter shot a one-over 73, while Cleland closed with a four-over 74 for a final score of 221.

Sophomore Tyler Sparks rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Sparks shot a four-over 76 to finish in a tie for 32nd-place with a score of 224.

UAB won the team championship after shooting a seven-under 857. Southern Miss finished in second-place after shooting a 292 for a three-day total of 866. Memphis, after leading the tournament through the first two days, closed with a final round 300 to finish in third place with 868 strokes. SMU finished in fourth-place, closing with a four-over 292 for a total of 873.

Tulsa closed in fifth place, shooting a 288 for a total of 876. Houston finished with 877 strokes, followed by East Carolina (879), UTEP (885), UCF (888), Marshall (899) and Rice (902).
