Texarkana, Ark. - Southern Miss redshirt sophomore Paul Apyan followed yesterday's 68 with a three-under 69 to lead the Golden Eagles in the second round of the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships, being played at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. Apyan has a two round total of 137, three shots off the lead. UAB's Brad Smith is the leader after shooting a six-under 66 for a total of 134. Junior Rocky Cleland shot an even par 72. His two round total of one-over 145 puts him in sole possession of 17th-place. Sophomores Wes Carter and Tyler Sparks sit in a tie for 22nd-place at four-over par. Carter shot a one-over 73, while Sparks finished with a 78 for a two-round score of 148. Senior Kyle Ramey rounds of the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Ramey fired a two-over 74 to sit in a tie for 41st-place with a score of 150. Memphis continues to lead the team competition after shooting a three-over 291 for a total of eight-under 568. Houston is four shots back in second-place after shooting 290 strokes (572). Southern Miss and UAB are in a tie for third. The Golden Eagles were one of two teams to shoot even par or better, firing a 288, while UAB closed with 291 strokes for a total of 574. SMU finished in fifth-place, closing with a two-under 286 for a two round score of 581. Tulsa is in sixth with 588 strokes, followed by East Carolina and UCF with 589, UTEP with 591, Rice with 592, and Marshall at 599.
Tuesday's final round tees off at 7:40 a.m., with teams going off both the front and back nine. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regional. |
