Men's Golf Places 11th at South Alabama Spring Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss shot a final-round 307 as a team to finish 11th in the South Alabama Spring Classic, Tuesday, at the Heron Lakes Golf Club.

Senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.) fired a final-round 79 to finish the two-day, 54-hole event with a 225 and a 37th-place tie. Freshman Alex Park (Ithaca, N.Y.) was next for the Golden Eagles after collecting a team-low round for the day of 75 to finish at 226 and a tie for 40th-place.

Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) notched a 77 and junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.) posted a 79, respectively, over their last 18 holes as each finished with a three-round total of 228 and a 47th-place tie. Redshirt freshman Paul Apyan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tallied a 76 in his final circuit to finish at 237 and in a 62nd-place tie.

Chattanooga golfer Derek Rende shot a final-round 70 to finish at a 12-under-par 204 to win the individual portion of the event. The Mocs also won the team championship by compiling a 282 in their last round to end the event at 847, besting Southeastern Louisiana by 12 strokes (859).

Host South Alabama (859) finished third, followed by Louisville (863), West Florida (864), Memphis (865), VCU (875), Jacksonville State (879), USF (889), Mississippi State 891, Southern Miss (307-904) and Mercer (906).

The Golden Eagles return to action, April 9-10, at the Arkansas State Indian Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., at the Ridgepointe Country Club.
