Myrick Places 13th in Carter Plantation Intercollegiate; Golden Eagles Finish 9th

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior men's golfer Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.) fired a final-round 74, Tuesday, to finish 13th in the 54-hole, two-day Carter Plantation Intercollegiate played at Carter Plantation in Hammond, La., while the Golden Eagles captured ninth in the 15-team field. Myrick posted his third Top 20 finish of the campaign as he ended the tournament with a three-over par 219. Redshirt freshman Paul Apyan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the second highest finisher for the Golden Eagles tallying a final-round 76 to post a 226 stroke total, good for a 34th-place tie. Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) shot a 76 in his last round to post a 227 total and 41st-place tie. Junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.) shot a 78 in his final round to complete the event in a 51st-place tie with a stroke total of 229. Freshman Alex Park (Ithaca, N.Y.) completed the Golden Eagle finishers with a 78 during the last day of action. Park placed 57th with a 54-hole total of 233 strokes. James Taverner of Southeastern Louisiana fired a five-under 67 during the final round to win the individual championship, while the host Lions of SLU won the event by six strokes over Middle Tennessee with 862 total. MTSU finished at 868, while South Alabama was third at 879 and Jacksonville State in fourth at 881. Following the Gamecocks were Chattanooga (886), Ole Miss (890), Louisiana Tech (896), Mississippi State (898), Southern Miss (303=898), Arkansas State (902), USF (904), SLU Green (905), Texas-San Antonio (909), Nicholls State (919) and Louisiana-Monroe (929).
