Orlando, Fla. - Paul Apyan and Wes Carter finished in a tie for eighth, and the Southern Miss men's golf team posted a team score of seven-over par 871 to finish in eighth place at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational, played at the Rio Pinar Golf & Country Club. Apyan and Carter finished with final round scores of 74 and 70, respectively, to close the tournament with a three-under par 213, eight strokes behind winners Greg Forest and Mike Stern of UCF. Sophomore Tyler Sparks shot a final round of 72 for a three-round total of 220 to finish in a tie for 37th. Alex Park posted a final round 72 for a 226 to tie for 69th-place, while Kyle Ramey wrapped up the scoring with a final round 76 for a 230 and an 80th-place tie. UCF (846) finished 12 strokes ahead of Wichita State (858) to win the tournament. Louisville (859) finished third, while Ole Miss (862) earned a fourth-place finish. North Florida (867) finished fifth, followed by UT-Arlington (868) in sixth, Iowa State (870) in seventh, Southern Miss (871) in eighth, and Ohio State (874) in ninth. Kentucky shot a three-round total of 875 to finish in tenth, followed by Chattanooga and Memphis (877) in a tie for 11th. Tulsa (879) finished in 13th, followed by South Alabama (885), Old Dominion (891), Mercer (892), South Florida (903) and Arkansas State (906). Southern Miss continues its spring schedule, March 17-18, at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate, hosted by Jacksonville State, in Gadsden, Ala.
