Men's Golf Falls in Dual Match With Ole Miss in Battle at Grand Bear
Feb. 11, 2007 SAUCIER, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team fell to Ole Miss by nine strokes in the "Battle at Grand Bear" here, Saturday, at the Grand Bear Golf Resort. The Rebels finished with a 294, while the Golden Eagles shot a 303 at the Par 72, 7,204-yard course. Southern Miss was led by senior Joel Myrick (Hattiesburg, Miss.), who finished with a 73. Junior Kyle Ramey (Paducah, Ky.) had a 75 for the day. Sophomore Rocky Cleland (Hattiesburg, Miss.) added a 77, while freshman Paul Apyan (Chattanooga, Tenn.) tallied a 78. Freshman Alex Park (Ithaca, N.Y.) notched a 79, while freshman Tyler Sparks (Belmont, Miss.) put up an 85. Callum Macaulay led the way for the Rebels, firing a one-under par 71 for the low round of the day. Grand Bear, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is ranked as the No. 4 course in Mississippi, and is in the top 100 Public Courses in the U.S. as ranked by Golf Digest. Grand Bear has hosted Shell's Wonderful World of Golf (2000), featuring a match between Jesper Parnevik and Paul Azinger. John Daly's Make a Wish Tournament also was held here in 2004. The Golden Eagles return to 54-hole tournament action Feb. 19-20 at the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate in Orlando, Fla.
