March 22, 2008

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss completed its first week of spring football practice here Saturday morning with almost a three hour practice in full pads at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.

The Golden Eagles continued to install its new offensive and defensive schemes, while working at individual position drills. The workout ended with simulated game conditions in scrimmage situations.

The squad took advantage of the sunny day, which was in the low 70s for most of the practice.

The workout was spirited and many big hits were made during the scrimmage situations, including one by rising sophomore Chico Hunter.

"We had a good first week of practice," said Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora. "They were really flying around there today and having fun."

The practice was the fourth of 15 workouts for the Golden Eagles, which includes the annual Spring Game on April 12. Game time is set for 6 p.m., at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

For tickets to the Spring Game or 2008 season tickets, please call the Southern Miss Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK or purchase them online anytime at SouthernMiss.com.

The Golden Eagles return to the practice field Tuesday afternoon.
