March 4, 2008

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Athletics Director Richard Giannini announced today an agreement with Kansas for a home and home series for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

The Golden Eagles will meet the Jayhawks on Sept. 26, 2009, in Lawrence, Kan., with KU making a trip to Hattiesburg on Sept. 18, 2010.

"We have worked hard to play quality non-conference competition and we are pleased to announce this series that includes bringing in another quality BCS institution to Hattiesburg," Giannini said.

The Jayhawks finished 12-1 last season and defeated Virginia Tech 24-21 in the FedEx Orange Bowl to place No. 7 in both major football polls.

The two schools have never met in their respective football histories.

Since 2000, the Golden Eagles have played Big 12 institutions Nebraska and Oklahoma State at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium, as well as Illinois of the Big 10 Conference, California of the Pacific 10 Conference and North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
