PEARL, Miss. - Ole Miss' Cody Overbeck scored the tying run in the eighth inning and drove in the winning run in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field to lead the Rebels to a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Southern Miss, tonight, at Trustmark Park in front of 6,217 in attendance.

"Everything is under a microscope when you don't drive in runs," Southern Miss Head Coach Corky Palmer said. "We are 26 games into the season and still are leaving people everywhere. It was a great college baseball game and shows you how strong college baseball is in this state when you can draw more than 6,000 fans."

Evan Button singled to left center to lead off the inning, advanced to second when Jordan Henry's sacrifice bunt was thrown to second but not in enough time to retire Button. He advanced to third on Justin Henry's bunt single down the third base line and scored when Overbeck flew out to right.

In the eighth inning, Overbeck singled to right center, moved to second when Power reached on a infield single to third base and advanced to third base when third baseman James Ewing's throw to retire Power was errant. Pinch hitter C.J. Ketchum flew out to left field to score Overback for the tying run.

Patrick Ezell (2-1) was credited with the loss, pitching two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on two hits and had one strikeout. Cody Satterwhite (2-0) earned his second win of the season, pitching the ninth inning, giving up one hit and striking out one batter.

Mike Cashion started for Southern Miss, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits and walking two batters. Jared Cavenaugh came on in relief in the fourth inning, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and striking out one batter. Tyler Conn pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits and striking out one.

 

 

Ole Miss (19-8) scored six runs on 12 hits, while Southern Miss (17-9) scored five runs on seven hits and committed one error. The Golden Eagles stranded nine base runners and the Rebels left six on base.

Trey Sutton led the Golden Eagles with two hits, including a home run and two RBIs, Brian Dozier finished with two hits and Bailey Hartel had a hit and an RBI. Justin Henry finished with three hits, Andrew Clark had two hits, Logan Power had two hits and Alex Kliman had two hits and two RBIs to lead Ole Miss.

Sutton hit a two-run homer to right field to give Southern Miss an early 2-0 lead in the third inning. Trey Cuevas was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Bailey Hartel's double to left center in the fourth inning, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.

Ole Miss scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the one-run lead, 4-3. Clark hit a one-out solo homer to right field, Power hit a solo homer to left field, JoJo Tann walked and Alex Kliman hit a two-run homer to center field.

The Golden Eagles came back with two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Eddie Burger singled to left field to lead off the inning, moved to third on Dozier's single to left field and scored on a wild pitch. Dozier moved to second on the wild pitch, moved to third on another wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch for the second run of the inning.

Southern Miss travels to Memphis, Tenn., this weekend for a Conference USA three-game weekend series, March 30-31 and April 1. Friday's game starts at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's game begins at 2 p.m., and Sunday's game starts at 1 p.m.
